5 day auction—
This cotton robe was one of the outfits made by the Ideal Company for their 1958-1962, 12” Shirley Temple doll. I purchased it in an ebay lot several years ago. I could not find this unique clothing item in any of the Shirley Temple reference books that I have owned.
This dress is in vintage condition in that there is age discoloration on the neck binding and on the loopy trim on the bodice. Perhaps someone who is an expert in Shirley’s clothing will know if a soak in OxyClean or Biz will make the red dye run into the white trim and slip—so be very careful if you are not sure! The snaps in the back are donut gripper snaps, still sturdily attached. I don’t believe that the fabric has faded and I see no holes, tears or missing stitches. Most of the dresses have an attached slip, as does this one. Some of Shirley’s clothing items were not tagged, and this is one that is not tagged.
This robe is in very nice condition—the fabric is clean and crisp with no stains, tears, holes or missing stitches. There is one tiny age spot on the edge of the white trim at the neckline over the tag. The red fabric is very interesting. The white line and dots forming the lines are part of the printed design and the designs inside the large red circles feel like applied texture. When I looked inside the side seams, I found a tiny piece of what looks like white satin caught in one of the side seams. There is no evidence of the white ribbon on the outside of the same seam and none in the opposite seam. Do you think it used to have a sash?

This robe has been in my collection for many years. I have a smoke free home and I do not smell unpleasant odors on it, but I cannot guarantee what environment it came from. In my opinion, this collectible item will make a nice addition to your collection—
it did in mine for many years!
