#13a—VINTAGE—1960 Original SAILOR OUTFIT 12” Ideal Shirley Temple Doll

I am downsizing and must sell all of my 12” Shirley Temple doll outfits.  This week and the weeks to come, I will be listing Shirley outfits produced from 1960-1961—many are complete or near complete and I will be listing them in order by Ideal’s stock number.

5 day auction—
This sailor outfit was one of the sets made by the Ideal Company for their 1958-1962, 12” Shirley Temple doll.  It is outfit #9724, labeled ‘sailor dress’ on page 162 of Tonya Bervaldi-Camaratta’s reference book,
The Complete guide to Shirley Temple Dolls and Collectibles
in
2006.
She states that the outfit was produced in 1960 and consisted of a sailor shirt, pleated skirt, sailor hat, tights, undies, shoes and signature purse—the hat and undies are missing from the set in this auction.  Another reference book that this outfit can be found in is:

This outfit is in very nice condition for its age—clean with no stains, holes, tears or missing stitches and the gripper snaps are securely attached with No missing paint on the tops. Its tag is still clean and crisp (with a little wrinkling) and very little fraying on the raw edge.  This makes me think that this clothing item was only lightly played with.  The ‘pressed-out’ look to the gathers of the skirt would be from being in storage.  The signature purse is not missing paint in the ‘Shirley Temple’ graphic,
but there is a tear that goes nearly all the way across the handle
.  The black plastic Shirley Temple shoes have No problems.
I am unsure that the tights are original to Shirley—they just don’t look as long as the tights in the picture in Tanya’s reference book, in which I also cannot see how the original waist elastic should look.  The pair of tights in this auction look like they will stretch long enough to fit the 12” Shirley Temple doll.  They have a run in the knit fabric on the front of one of the legs.

This outfit has been in my collection for many years and the items may have come to me through several ebay auctions in order to put the set together.  I have a smoke free home and I do not smell unpleasant odors on them, but I cannot guarantee what environment they came from.  In my opinion, this collectable set will make a nice addition to your collection—
it did in mine for many years!
